Apple two-factor authentication locked me out. What do I do now?

I was trying to sign into my Apple ID on my phone but the two-factor authentication locked me out. Apple was sending codes to both my phone and computer. While I was trying to sign into my Apple ID on my phone apple kept sending a two-factor authentication codes on my phone (very confusing). Naturally I typed them in but still could not access my account. I finally realized that every time I allowed an "Apple ID sign in request" Apple was sending 2 different codes to my computer & phone. I used a code that was sent to my computer and I received a pop up notification saying "Cannot Verify Code, You have attempted to verify too many codes. I am really confused & frustrated because Apple was sending me multiple codes, none of which were working. I cannot find any information on what to do when the two-factor authentication breaks so any advice is greatly appreciated.

You will always get a different code on different devices. Any will work to allow access.

You'll have to wait and try again after some time. I've found sites that say 8 hours.

If you still can't sign in

If you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity.
