I logged out of mail a while ago and i’ve been trying to sign back in but when i try to it tells me that i’m already signed into that account on my phone. i’ve tried going to connect it through settings as well but i still can’t get into my mail on my iphone. how can i gain access to my mail on my phone again?

Can you get into that email account from another device, like a PC? If so, you should be OK.
First, in Mail, back out to the Mailboxes screen if you aren't already there. Do you see the subject email account in the list of mailboxes? Does it have an "unread" number beside it? What happens when you tap on it (not "All Inboxes")? If that mail server is on the list but inaccessible, you should be OK.
If you are still with me, go next to Settings. Scroll down and tap on "Mail". Tap on "Accounts". After you delete the troublesome account, you will be able to add it in again. Good luck.
