swipe function is not working

the swipe function on my iphone 11 is not working.

Do a forced restart: Press and quickly release the volume up button then quickly press and release the volume down button then quickly press and hold the side button, ignore the off slider, wait for the Apple logo then release the side button. Emphasis on quickly in all steps.

Thank you. Another thing that bothers me — there’s supposed to be a white line on the bottom of the screen for ease in swiping up or down but sometimes it is not there. There are three dots at other times. Any ideas?
