I Connected my iPhone to my Mac to back up the photos in Recents to the Mac and checked the box to remove them from recents. Using finder, I then synced all of my photos from the Mac to my iPhone. Of course, I now find that I cannot delete photos from the phone that have been synced from the Mac. Is there a way to reverse what I have done?

You can remove the synced photos from the iPhone by syncing again and selecting different photos for syncing. The new sync will replace the previous sync.

if you want to restore the photos to the Recents album, you would have to transfer them to the iPhone by saving them to Photos, for example by mailing them or Air Dropping them.
