Google Maps on Safari

When using the web-based Google Maps in Safari (M1 MB air, OS 11.6.5, latest Safari for that OS), the window often goes black in satellite view. I've tried clearing caches, restarting, cleaning memory, but it always comes back to this. It has only started happening in recent weeks.

If I use Google Maps in Chrome, I do not have this issue, but I prefer not to use Chrome as my default browser.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

FWIW, the current version of Big Sur is 11.6.7.
