Why can't I restore my Ipad?

I've followed ALL the instructions, after being locked out cos I couldn't remember my passcode. My laptop eventually gets to the 'extracting software for ipad' screen, and then says ipad can't be located/restored.

Anything else I need to try?

You are presumably following procedures to recover access to an iPad with a forgotten Passcode, or is disabled:

If your Apple ID is locked or disabled - Apple Support

As described, your computer is losing connection with the iPad during the restore process. Try using a different USB port on your computer and/or a different USB data cable. This support page may also help with troubleshooting connection issues:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be best advised to seek guidance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, if you have access to another device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
