edited photo's from photos not edited anymore when imported into imovie

I've seen this topic several times, but no good answer other than work via desktop. But this is really not workable if you have many photos sorted in an album.

Problem: I edit a photo in photos, for example pull horizon straight

Opening the album in imovie shows the edited picture in the photo library

but as soon as i place the photo on the time line the edit is gone and the horizon is not straight anymore.

Anybody any solution in the meantime?? In the past I have used this feature million times, always worked great....

Computer: imac with Apple M1 and Monterey 12.4

Thanks for any help!

You are correct that others have had the problem of Photos app edits not carrying over to iMovie projects from the Photos item in the sidebar. A workaround, that I realize you've said is not feasible for you, is to do a File/Export from the Photos app to your desktop, and from there drag the edited photo into iMovie. You can export the photos as a batch from the Photos app album, to a folder on your desktop. Then it's just a matter of dragging from the desktop folder into iMovie whatever edited photos that you want.

Have you tried redownloading iMovie from your account purchases in the online app store? To do that drag the iMovie app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. Then sign in at the app store and see if you can redownload iMovie from your account purchases window. If unsuccessful, you can drag iMovie out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder.

As a last resort, you can try contacting apple support from the Get Support item in the upper right hand corner of this forum's screen.

Try deleting/resetting preferences, as sometimes that cures unexpected behavior by iMovie. To deletee/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if your edits will carry over into iMovie. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

If still no luck, try opening your Photos app library (the actual Photos app library) side by side with your iMovie project. Then drag in whatever photos that you want.

Thank you for the response Rich!

Unfortunately these suggestions were already in other but similar topics, I think partly suggested by yourself.

I already tried the "delete preference" option without result

And dragging the picture directly from photos into imovie shows the picture on the imovie timeline for about half a second in the edited format, then it reverts to its original format...

So I really hope there are other options, but I have not seen them yet (and it seems I am not the only one with this problem...)

Thanks again Rich,

Yes, the workaround by dragging the edited photo's to desktop/finder and then into iMovie works, but that is a big hassle with many photos. Also I use photo's to to put them in the right order in an album and exporting or dragging looses that order.

I have not tried redownloading iMovie. Maybe I will try that if solves anything.

thanks!

Yes, everyone has their preferred workflow. iMovie should work as designed, but for some reason it is not doing so. You could try experimenting with various diagnostic procedures. Something simple like shutting down and rebooting might solve it. Or booting up in Safe Mode and then, after everything loads, reboot in normal mode. You could also try opening iMovie in a new user account (your guest account would work) and see if that makes any difference. Or open iMovie in a new library.

As a footnote, to preserve order when exporting several photos from the Photos app, choose the "Sequential" option file name from the Photos app export box. That should preserve the order on your desktop folder and also when you drag them as a batch into iMovie.
