I have an iphone 7 running iOS 15.5 and i am trying to pair an apple watch series 2 but when I try pair it, it tells me the watch needs to update and i cant update the watch, it keeps telling me unable to "check for update"

ok thanks, casue the watch used to be my wifes and she has an iPhone 6 and we have unpaired it from her icloud and everything and when I try pair it it needs updating on the watch and when I try say update it tells me its unable to update i must connect to the internet
So what you saying is that the watch is useless to me now.
I never said that,I said it was technically possible to pair a watch 2 to a newer phone.
I would visit an Apple store and see if they could help you as they have access to tools that only apple has.
would i have to downgrade my iOS on my phone to maybe pair it then upgrade my iOS again.
You can't downgrade ios software.
