Apple Watch Update

Hi! I recently got an apple watch from my friend that he was using. Very exciting and all untill I tried to pair it with my iPhone. When I pair it it says it's in need of an update and when I press "Update" It says "Could Not Install Update" It does not give me a reason and I pressed "Try Again" a hundred times. The other option it gives it to start over. I tried that a couple of times too. I just can't get it to work. I reinstalled the watch app. Tried powering on and off. Resetted Network Settings. Can someone please help?
