Error importing photos from a 2008Mac HD Photolibrary

Hey there,

I have my old 2008 Mac hard drive in a USB casing along with my old iPhoto library.

While trying to import the iPhoto library from this older drive into my 2020 Mac Airbook via the Photos app, the following happens:

  1. Photos attempts to repair the library from the old drive
  2. At 6% progress, I get an error “There isn’t enough space on the drive to migrate the library”
  3. The size of the old iPhoto library is approx 70GB

I have tried cleaning up a ton of stuff from the old Mac hard drive but keep getting this error.

I have a few special photos living on my old drive so any ideas or help would be much appreciated!

Copy the Library to the new machine, then open it with Photos.
