Cannot get get reset to work on apple watch

My mother in law's watch locked due to having too many invalid passcode attempts. So I am trying to hard reset it. I get to the screen where is asks if I want to reset and I can click on the "Reset" button. But then the are you sure screen comes up for confirmation and the "Reset" button is unresponsive. It does nothing but stay on that screen. Is there any other way to force a reset?

I could not make that work either or anything else. I finally solved it by letting the watch battery fully die (took about a week). Then when I charged it I could reset the watch and pair it to my iPhone. Honestly I was concerned that the watch face was not working but after doing this the touch responses worked as expected. I think it just hit some sort of software glitch that killing the battery cleared up.
