Importing photographs to photos

Hi,

I am using a MacBook pro with OS 12.5. I have just come across to Mac from Windows 11.

I currently have all my photos organised in various folders. If I import them, will Photos create a duplicate, therefore allowing me to delete the original file, or do I need to leave the original file in place?

Thank you,

MacBook Pro

Make sure the preferences say that Photos is "copying items to Library", as long as this preference is correct, you may delete the images after you import them. You want to make sure that the checkbox is checked.

As Keith said, make sure the preferences say that Photos is "copying items to Library" (a "referenced" library is not recommended because AFAIK it is still quite buggy).

Then you might delete the originals AFTER making backup(s) via Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner!

One option would be to backup the originals in plain folders in an external drive because quite rarely the Photos library might act up. Better to be safe than sorry.
