Photo organization

To organize my photos, I moved a bunch, A BUNCH, of them into the various options given when I hit "Add to" and a list of folders. Now if I go create an ALBUM, I can move those photos into those. What purpose do those folders use, then, and where can I recover the painstakingly organized photos?

An hour or two later after doing this, I am pretty upset.

Albums hold photos. You can't add photographs to a folder.

Folders hold albums. That's their purpose. So a Folder called, say, My Vacations can hold albums made up of vacation pics.
