Apple Watch won’t charge all of a sudden

My Apple Watch Series 6 won’t charge all of a sudden after a trip to the beach. I plug it in and it shows the green lightning bolt and charger snake (as if it’s completely dead) then after a minute or two shows the red bolt as if it’s not charging. It also gets very hot.

I’ve tried the obvious troubleshooting like switching outlets and what Apple suggests on their “what to do if your Apple Watch won’t charge” support page. I fid not try another charger cable though since I’m currently on vacation. I did clean both the Watch and the cable (which had worked a couple of hours before the problem.
