Find my phone via imei

My friend's iphone was stolen. How can I locate the device using IMEI#?

You can't find an iPhone using IMEI. In order to track a lost or stolen iPhone, Find My must have been enabled before the phone went missing. The cellular provider can deactivated the phone by IMEI and can blacklist a lost or stolen iPhone.
