Thank you for the detailed instructions. Yes,

it is true you can make the Lock Screen and Home Screen different but the choices you have for Wallpaper options for the Lock Screen are extensive. There are options Apple gives you plus you can use one of your own photos. For the Home Screen customization you get the options of original, color, gradient, photos, or Blur. That is it. I don’t want any of these choices. I want to use one of the Apple provided wallpapers that I saw as an option for the Lock Screen. Specifically the one called multicolored under the heading Color in the Collections. The only way I can figure out how to use it for my Home Screen is to use it for my Lock Screen and tell it to set as a pair. But I don’t want that wallpaper for my Lock Screen too. I want to use a photo for my Lock Screen. Do you understand my dilemma? Is there a way to do get an Apple provided wallpaper on your Home Screen but not on your Lock Screen?

Hello Hasiatu,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We have steps to help with changing your Home Screen wallpaper and keep it different from your Lock Screen.

  1. Go to Settings > Wallpaper
  2. Tap Add New Wallpaper.
  3. Tap Photos, People, or Photo Shuffle to choose your own photo. You can also select a wallpaper from a category like Weather & Astronomy, Emoji, Collections, or Color.
  4. Tap Done in the upper right when done.

That should set your Wallpaper separate from your Lock Screen.

Take care.

No they didn't take the ability to have separate Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpapers away in iOS 16.

First follow the directions in the link posted above to choose the lock screen wallpaper you want using the customization features. Once you do that and tap Done, you have two options. Set as Wallpaper Pair OR Customize Home Screen. Choose Customize Home Screen and choose the home screen wallpaper you want there.

Hey there Hasiatu,

Taking a close look at Personalize your iPhone Lock Screen, you are still able to have a different Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpaper.

* Choose whether to use the wallpaper on both the Lock Screen and Home Screen: Tap Set as Wallpaper Pair.

* Make further changes to the Home Screen: Tap Customize Home Screen. Tap a color to change the wallpaper color, tap the Photo On Rectangle button to use a custom photo, or select Blur to blur the wallpaper so the apps stand out.

You'll find out how under the section "Create a custom Lock Screen".

You'll need to choose "Customize Home Screen" after setting up your Lock Screen. You'll see this in action within the Apple Support YouTube video below.
