My watch face has become separated from base

I got a brand new Apple Watch last Christmas 2021. (SE) I notice that watch face was becoming separated from the base of the watch. I did not do anything to cause it or no impact or physical damage. It just randomly began detaching from the watch.

I took it in to the Apple Store and they said it would cost almost the price of a new watch to fix it. My warranty was up less than two months ago. This can’t be fair right. If I didn’t do anything to cause it?

I had the same problem with my Apple Watch. I did a little research and was almost ready to buy a new gasket and glue the watch together myself when I saw a whole host of articles about the fact that many batteries expand and pop the face off of watches. This also happened to one of my older iPhones.

I did an online chat with the Apple Service personnel, and even though the watch was out of warranty, they offered to replace the battery and reattach the watch face for the price of a battery replacement. I did this and received a new (or refurbished) watch. It was a very quick turnaround, so I would do this before going to a local service center.

Good Luck!

Welcome DamePerk,

We understand you have a hardware issue with your Apple Watch screen.

If you've brought the Apple Watch to a local Apple Store and they determined the issue was hardware related, then you'll need to seek service in order to resolve the issue.

Alternatively, you could seek a second inspection at another Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store: Apple Watch Service & Repair - Apple Support

Get prepared for your visit: Get your Apple Watch ready for service - Apple Support

Select 'Service' here, then search nearby for locations: Find Locations

Keep in mind, that Apple Authorized Service Provider set their own pricing, so the estimated costs may change, if visiting one of these certified service centers.

Wishing you well, take care.
