MacBook stolen, Find my iPhone MacBook with the activated and I never was able to recover it

MacBook stolen, Find my iPhone MacBook was activated and I never was able to recover it, I locked it report a stolen even offered or a reward on the lock screen it’s supposed to show me where it is when it’s connected to Wi-Fi am I missing something is there a way people can hack into this and erase it so I can’t track it because that’s the only way I can imagine that I have not been able to find it
