how can i update my old MacBook Pro to the new os x because i can't find the new update in the app store and can't function any of my applications without an update

How old is "old"? You haven't stated which model you have. A MacBook Pro must be a 2015 model or later to support the current macOS Monterey.

macOS Ventura, due for release later this year, raises the bar to 2017 or later for MacBook Pros.

Upgrades will be offered in System Preferences > Software Update, or will be until you have taken your Mac as far as it can go.
