Battery Duration on iOS 16.0

Since upgrading my iPhone 8 I noticed a degradation in my battery performance. I also get a “battery is degraded” message for the 1st time. I checked battery health and it shows 89%. What gives?

I sure hope iOS 16 for iPad doesn’t do this because the battery doesn’t last long on my iPad mini. It never did!

cheers,

gary

One thing I did notice on my iphone is that the weather app and those space wallpapers remain active in the background and can adversely affect your battery life. Maybe one thing to look for is if you’re using that to turn those off and see if it helps.

may or may not but I had the weather app use a lot of my battery the one time I used it (I’ve been avoiding it or force closing it ever since)

The message that you see would suggest that your iPhone battery is unable to meet “peak” power demands.

The indicated battery health is, we understand, principally established from the number of full battery charge cycles - an iPhone battery being expected to maintain 80% of its original capacity (when new) after 500 full charge cycles. A full charge cycle is defined as any combination of charging that together totals 100% (e.g., 50+30+10+10 = 100 = 1 full cycle).

By comparison, an iPad battery is expected to retain 80% of its original capacity after 1000 full charge cycles.

Having updated to iOS16.x for iPhone, this being a very early production release of the new Operating System, there may still be some bugs and issues. If you are concerned, you might be best advised to seek advice directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Managing the Battery Health:

The Battery Health percentage decreases as is decreases. Unfortunately, there is no way to know why this happened and when. In all, know that once the Battery Health reaches below 80%, it is time for a new battery.

View the Battery Health:

Apple recommends you get a new battery, once the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower. When the Battery Health is 80% or lower, it is time for a new battery.

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Battery
  3. Tap: Battery Health
  4. View: [the percentage]
  5. Is it 80% or less?  If so, it is time for a new battery.
