Best practices: where should I put my new fonts after they've been loaded to Font Book? I'd like to clear them out of my Downloads folder.

I've downloaded new, purchased fonts and the folder is in my "Downloads" folder. What are best practices - for where to move the fonts?

Or can the folder be moved to my portable drive once they've been loaded to Font Book?

In Font Book, control-click one of these fonts in the list, and choose Show in Finder.

Where does it take you?

I am thinking that probably into your own user Library (/Users/(yourname)/Library/Fonts).

If that is the case, your original files in Downloads are not being used anymore.

You can drag and drop the enclosing new font folder in Downloads over into your /Users/yourname/Library/Fonts folder and as it is one of the automatically scanned System font locations, the fonts will just show up in your application font menus. This is how I install new fonts, and they are automatically active in Font Book using this process.
