"browser not recognized" after macos 12.6 update

I recently updated my MacBook Air to Monterey 12.6. Ever since the update, I get a message that "this browser on this device is not recognized" every time I log in by a couple of websites - most notably united.com. It is as if the cookies are not being saved. This is the case on Safari and Chrome. Both are updated to latest versions. Any suggestions?

The following Apple Support documents offer several suggestions:

If you can’t open a website in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn't working as expected - Apple Support

Sometimes, merely restarting the Mac resolves the problem. Try that also.
