Old imac as external display for m2 macbook air

I have a late 2009 iMac 27” (high sierra) and im planning to upgrade to an M2 MacBook Air. But since i dont want the iMac to be left on a shelf or sell it and i really like its display, can i use it as an external monitor for the M2 macbook air? Im asking because i know that you cant connect anything you want using target display. Also if it works, what adapters should i buy?

24-inch and 27-inch iMac models introduced in 2009 and 2010
To use any of these iMac models as an external display:
The iMac used as a display must have macOS High Sierra or earlier installed.
The other Mac that you're connecting it to must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.
The cable connecting the two Mac computers must be a Mini DisplayPort  cable.

Your new MacBook Air with M2 chip was introduced in 2022 and is running macOS Monterey, not macOS Catalina or earlier.

Sorry for any confusion!
