photos on iMac not moving to iCloud

I am trying to backup the photos on my iMac in the photos app to iCloud because I am trading in the iMac. The photos in iCloud match the photos in my phone and on my MacBook air - none of the photos on the iMac are in the cloud drive. Do I need to do anything to kick off the file transfer? I do have photos selected in my iCloud configuration.

Is there a way to leave all my stored photos in the ICloud and remove them from my MacBook for the sake of storage? Can I just uncheck my sync to ICloud amd do that? I am trying to set up a new computer. I want to delete all my photos on my old Mac before migrating info to my new computer. All photos are currently backed up in the ICoud. Photos and icloud sync Hi, I have an old iMac (late 2013, with Catalina OSX) where I uploaded some old pictures to Photos before I was syncing with iCloud. In the result I have now all of the devices (iphone, Ipad ect) syncing all the current photos to iCloud but only iMac shows a few years of old photos that were not synced before. The 'iCloud synced photos' show on the iMac but older pictures do not show on any other devices. Now I need to get rid of the iMac and I'm not sure how to add those 'old' photos to iCloud sync. Should the old photos add to the sync or I need to manually transfer them to one of the 'current' devices? Cheers Mac
