I want to buy the new 2022 iPad pro 11 inch but I don't want to buy a new pencil. Will my original apple pencil work with the new 11 inch iPad pro or do I have to have a 2nd generation apple pencil?

As you will see, all 11” models of iPad Pro support the second generation Apple Pencil. Apple Pencil models are not interchangeable.

Your original, 1st gen Apple Pencil DOES NOT work with any of the newer 2018-2022 iPad Pro models.
You will need to purchase the 2nd gen Apple Pencil.
