Compass app ...

When the Compass app is opened, does it remain running in the background (consuming battery life) when not displayed ? If yes, how do you close the Compass app ?

Note: The Dock setting is Favorites (not Recents), and the Compass is not included as a Favorite. I open the Compass app from the list of all apps when the Crown button is pushed once.

When you switch to a new app, the app you were using doesn't remain open or take up system resources.

However it may still "refresh" ie check for updates and new content--in the background.

To maximize battery life, you can turn this option off.

1.            Open the Settings app © on your Apple Watch.

2.            Go to General > Background App Refresh

3.         Turn off Background App Refresh to prevent all apps from refreshing. Or scroll down, then turn off refresh for individual apps.

Note: Apps with complications on the current watch face will continue to refresh, even when their background app refresh setting is off.

Got it, and thanks ! The reason for posing the question here is that when you search for "close open apps on apple watch", you see lots of articles about pressing the Side button, swiping an app left to right, and then pressing the X within the red box. However, based on my experience this only removes the app from the Dock, so that it's no longer available anytime you re-enter the Dock. Are these articles misinformation or was that how apps were closed in a previous version of watchOS ?
