AirPods Pro firmware update difficulty...again

anyone else having trouble getting the AirPods Pro 2 firmware update? I've been trying all the techniques for two days, with zero luck.

Hello tde1,


I just updated my AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) to the latest firmware (5B58), so here is what you should try.


First make sure that your device is updated to the latest OS: for Mac (macOS Ventura 13.0.1) and for iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.1.1).


Then, connect your AirPods Pro with your Mac laptop with the Thunderbolt charging cable that came with them, or place them within 1"-2" from your iPhone with Bluetooth on and your AirPods Pro connected.


Leave your AirPods Pro connected to your device for approximately 30 minutes.


After this, you can check to see if your AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) are up-to-date by following some simple steps:

If your AirPods Pro still do not show up as connected to Firmware version 5B58, then I would suggest contacting Apple Support directly at this link:

Okay,


So I would now suggest shutting down your device (preferably your MacBook Pro).


Keep your AirPods connected to your MacBook Pro with their power cable.


Restart it in "Safe Mode" by holding down on the power/Touch ID button until it says "Loading startup options..." Then you should see your Macintosh startup disk and Service. While holding on your shift key, click underneath your Macintosh startup disk where it will say, "Continue in Safe Mode". You will probably need to log in twice to your account. Here is what Safe Mode helps with (Note: an Apple Professional instructed me to take this step when I was unable to connect my AirPods Pro to Find My, as it usually diagnosis the problem):

When you have finished trying all the "methods" for updating your AirPods Pro, then restart your computer to exit Safe Mode.


I'm sorry you are still having problems with this. Once again, if this doesn't help, then you should probably just contact Apple directly.

Thanks, DP22. I've tried all those techniques, except I used a USB-to-Airpods cable with my MacBook. The cable that came with my Pro 2's was USB-C, not Thunderbolt. iPhone 14 Pro Max and MacBook Pro are all on the latest software...no luck. Also tried an older iPhone (on latest software), but no luck there, either.


I'm wondering if any others are also experiencing a lack of success? I've always been able to update my Pro 1's, and even the initial update to the Pro 2's ((5A377), but now I'm shut out. Indeed, my Pro 1's updated to 5B58 immediately.

Nice try, DP22, but still no joy. I even talked with a few Apple technicians yesterday, tried all their suggestions, too, but nothing.


I have an Apple case number now, so will be in touch with them again today.


Thanks again for your suggestions. I'll try to remember to update you on the final solution...whenever that might happen..

Well, they sent me to the local Apple Store. The Genius Bar eventually took my AirPod Pro 2's to send them off for their 'engineers' to assess. They'll either return my updated Pods to me, or they will send me a new pair. We'll probably never know why this firmware update failed.
