Wi-Fi won't turn on, MacBook Pro

When I used the setairportpower network setup command in terminal, it said it didn't recognize the device, however when i go to system information, it lists the wifi hardware as airport, with the device name i used in terminal.

the wireless diagnostics utility won't open--it just flashes for a second.

the network settings say "cable unplugged," which doesn't make sense. i can't add a new wifi service, as the option doesn't appear (the only interfaces to choose from are thunderbolt bridge, thunderbolt 1 & 2, VPN, PPPoE, and 6to4).

any ideas? i'd be grateful for support, as i live in a remote part of mexico and there is no authorized apple repair and i need my computer to work.

If your WifI card is not recognized by the System Information

you have a hardware issue

>(Option key) System Information>Network>Wifi

Check your coverage
