Using External Monitors with 3rd Gen 11-inch iPad Pro

Hello! I am using a 3rd Gen 11-inch iPad Pro with the M1 processor and iPadOS 16.1.1 installed. I have an Apple HDMI adapter and wish to use the new external monitor features with my Dell HDMI monitor. However, as I set everything up the monitor is still the same mirror of my iPad with the two ugly bars on either side. What step am I missing as everything I have seen it seems very straight forward.

Thanks for reading and I hope someone can identify my missing step.

Basic screen mirroring should be available to an external TV or connected monitor with iPadOS 16.1. However, Stage Manager support for external monitors is not yet available - this feature being planned for release later this year.

Be patient. It’s coming 🙂
