I need to update my MacBook Air but there is no update listed, but I still have the old version.

I need to update my MacBook Air but there is no update listed, but I still have the old version. When I go to my app updates or software updates, it had no update for me but I have the 2020 version. I still need the MacOS Ventura version as well. I have been trying to add Microsoft Excel on my computer and it does not allow me because it states, "(null) can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 11 or later is required."

I would genuinely appreciate any feedback you can provide, thank you!

The model year of a MacBook Air is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.

A mid 2009 MacBook Air can be upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.6 but no later version. See: How to download macOS - Apple Support

A 2017 MacBook Air cannot be upgraded to Ventura.

It can be upgraded to Monterey but no later. If you are running a version earlier than Monterey, see the following to upgrade to Monterey: How to download macOS - Apple Support

I'm not aware of any apps that won't run on Monetery -- the current version of Excel should have no problem with Monterey.

What macOS do you currently have installed?

Thank you for your response. So two things, if I have a 2017 MacBook Air does that mean per your list of updates that I can get, I can’t get the macOS Ventura since that’s is listed for 2018 versions+? And second, when I click on the support website to show me how to do the upgrade/update, it gives me the steps and every time I do follow the steps on my computer, I don’t have a update to click on, so that’s my issue, there’s no update for me, but it’s also stopping me from downloading other apps on my laptop because it says I don’t have the latest version.

That makes sense. Thank you, I wasn’t aware of that! I currently have macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6.

I will try and update to Monterey on my software updates by following the support link you provided!

Sounds good. Upgrading from High Sierra to Monterey should resolve the issue with Microsoft Excel.

However, be aware that if you have any non-Apple 32-bit software, it will not run with Monterey and will also need to be updated. The following article has some more information about that.: https://www.macworld.com/article/232735/how-to-check-if-mac-software-is-32-or-64-bit.html
