AirDrop keeps saying it’s waiting

  • AirDrop keeps saying it’s waiting

How can I fix this? Seems like all the requirements to use Airdrop have been met, but it still won't transfer files between my iPhone and MacBook Pro. It worked a few months ago.

Hello that3dguy,

If you have confirmed all the settings and steps from Use AirDrop on iPhone to send items to nearby devices - Apple Support are correct, and you are still having an issue, here are a few other things to confirm.

On your iPhone, tap on Settings > General > Date & Time, and confirm this is set correctly.

Tap on Settings > Wi-Fi. Look for IP Address. Confirm it does not start with 169.254 followed by two other numbers.

Next, check the following locations:

  1. Settings > Safari > Content Blockers
  2. Settings > General > VPN
  3. Settings > General > Profile. If there is a profile installed, check with whomever installed the profile before removing.
  4. Check for any VPN or security apps. If any are installed, delete them for now. They can be reinstalled later.
  5. Reset network settings, then test.  Tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If the problem remains after performing these steps, we would suggest you reach out to Apple Support using this link: Get Support

They will be in the best position to assist further.

Have a good day.

This started happening to me, as well, when I recently went to use AirDrop to send photos from my iPhone to my Mac Studio, something I do all the time. I also discovered, during my troubleshooting, that my iCloud drive wasn't syncing either when I tried to move them that way. I eliminating my iPhone as a suspect by successfully AirDropping some images to my MacBook Air. None of the solutions I found here helped.

What did work was signing out of my iCloud account on my Mac, opting to not keep any files on my Mac, and then signing back in. That seemed to solve both the AirDrop and the iCloud file synch problems.

One important note: after logging back in, using the Mac Studio icon for AirDrop still didn't work at first. I had to use the AirDrop icon to share the file the first time. (Then using the Mac icon worked.)
