Hello Bluehouse883,

There could be a few reasons why your iPad is unable to update to iOS 15.6.1. Here are some things you can try:

  1. Make sure you have a stable internet connection. A poor or unstable internet connection can cause the update to fail.
  2. Free up some space on your device. While 9 GB of available storage should be enough to install the update, it's always a good idea to have some extra space available. You can try deleting unused apps or moving photos and videos to the cloud to free up space.
  3. Restart your iPad. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve issues that may be preventing the update from installing. To restart your iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the "slide to power off" slider appears. Drag the slider, then wait for the device to turn off. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
  4. Try updating through iTunes. If you are unable to update your iPad through the Settings app, you can try updating through iTunes on your computer. Connect your iPad to your computer, open iTunes, and click on the device icon. Click on the "Check for Update" button and follow the prompts to install the update.
  5. Check for any software issues. If you are still having trouble updating your iPad, there may be an issue with the software on your device. You can try resetting your iPad to its factory settings and then attempting the update again. Keep in mind that resetting your device will erase all of your data, so be sure to back up your important files before proceeding.

I hope these suggestions help. If you are still having trouble updating your iPad after trying these steps, you may want to contact Apple support for further assistance.
