Do a test by opening the basic blank template. If the cursor isn't flashing you could try in safe mode, then change to normal mode then see if it persists: Start up your Mac in safe mode – Apple Support (AU)
Otherwise delete the app and download it again.
I recommend you keep Pages User Guide for Mac - Apple Support handy as it can address evolving questions about Pages usage.
If you can see the insertion point ( I ), usually near the top left corner of the page in a new word processing document) you can just start typing.
If the text in one of the containers in a Page Layout document is highlighted, you can just start typing. Your first keystroke will erase the placeholder text that is highlighted, and replace it with the first character you typed. successive keystrokes will add to the text.
If the insertion point is not visible near the top of the page or in one of the containers in the document, you will need to first click in the page to place theInsertion point where you want it*, then start typing.

Barry
*Depending on the type of document, the insertion point may start near the top of the empty page, in a text box, shape, or other text container near where you clicked, or at the end of or in text that was existing when you opened the page. If the last, the text may be a placeholder, which will disappear on the first keystroke, or regular text, which will stay while you add text to the end of the existing text or insert text into the existing text at the point where you clicked.
B.
Just type.
That's what I thought, but I can't see any cursor so I can start typing
