Old email address won't let me log in to FaceTime and iMessage

When I try to log in to FaceTime and Messages on my iPad Air (4th gen) running OS 16.2, it first asks me for my current Apple ID, then it asks me for a password associated with an old email account I'm no longer using. I can't delete that old address from the log-in box. I have no trouble using FaceTime and iMessage on my iPhone 13, but I can't use it on my iPad because I can't log in. How do I delete that old email address from my Apple account?

Hey there FloridaAuthor,

To clarify, are you using a new Apple ID that differs from the account signed in on the iPad? To check, go to Settings > [your name].

You'll also want to see which account is set up to be used with iMessage and FaceTime. Check by using these steps next: Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and Settings > FaceTime.

If using a different account that what's shown in these screens, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > tap on the Apple ID at the bottom of this screen and sign out.

If the steps above do not help, please reply with more specific details on the issue, the steps you're taking, and any other details you think will help.

Take care!
