Have you considered using iCloud Photos to synchronise photos between your Mac and iPad?

Alternatively, you might use AirDrop:

A further option is to use a physical USB storage device to transfer a copy of your photos from the Mac to your iPad. To do so, you’ll need a USB adapter appropriate for your model of iPad. For iPad models with a Lightning connector, you’ll need an Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter:
