Hi my operating system is Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. How do i upgrade to a new version.

I cant seem to update my Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan to a newer version on my 2015 imac 21.5 inch.

You can upgrade to macOS Monterey. Get it here: How to download macOS - Apple Support.

Make sure you have a backup first!
