New ipad won't sync email password?

A friend bought a new ipad 9th gen wifi model. I was able to transfer everything from the old ipad 5th gen. Most other passwords synced but not the password for the Hotmail account? I guess it's the ipad default email app. Can still use email from the old ipad but there's no settings to create a new password using the default app. Unfortunately, my friend doesn't use the Hotmail account on any other devices and her landline phone is the only number Hotmail suggests for password reset. The keychain is turned on. Any ideas?

Some email providers now require the use of App Specific Passwords when accessing mail over IMAP or POP3. If this applies to your email account, you will need to generate a unique password for your iPad email account - that will differ from your normal Account Password. As examples - AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft all use App Specific Passwords when using anything other than their own email client Apps.

Microsoft accounts include live.comoutlook.com and hotmail.com domains.

If you need to generate an App Specific Password, you’ll need to log-in to your Mail Providers account management webpage - using a web browser - and generate the Password from the appropriate account security page.

More details about Microsoft App Passwords can be found here:

In moving from old to new device, you have likely triggered the requirement to use an App-specific password to access Microsoft mail services from your new iPad.
