My son needs an iPad when he starts high school in September. What’s the difference between the iPad and the iPad Air ?

When comparing similar-year models, the iPad Air is a mid-range higher performance model - whereas the iPad (without the “Air”) is a cheaper lower performance model. The “Pro” models offer a further step-up in both performance and capabilities.
