Can I configure a mailbox to be receive only and prevent any sending?

I have several email accounts set up as normal.

The server filters dubious, but potentially valid emails from several addresses into a singe 'real' account named Junk@xyzdomain. On my client laptop I have a mailbox to check the content of Junk@xyz.

Now and again, in a rush, I have replied to an email and of course it leaves as being sent from junk@xyz.

Deeply annoying.

How can I configure the client to prevent email sending but allow email receipt for that single account?

Yes, I could use another email client solely for that account, but having all email in a single location makes sense, if the operator is awake.

Any suggestions?

I have a suggestion for you. If the junk@xyz account is the one which responds, then go onto that account in your email app and open Preferences. It is there that you will see your account ID and passwords for both incoming and outgoing functions. Next, omit the information for outgoing email messages and they can't be sent.

Yes, good idea, and that's what I set out to do. Problem is that the box knows that an outgoing server is needed for functioning email. When I configure 'none' then it picks another configured server and uses that.

But I spent a bit of time messing about, and finally have a work round.

I had an invalid SMTP server in the list of servers, so configured that as the server, and removed the password. You have to turn off 'automatically manage connection settings' else it demands correct entries.

I now have a number of valid, configured SMTP servers for real accounts, and one server named only 'gmail' which probably resulted from some aborted config ages ago.

The result is that an email attempts to go, and throws up an error demanding a password for server 'gmail'

enough of a stop for me to curse at my stupidity and correct the 'from' address on the outgoing mail.

So thanks for the pointer. Your help got me there.
