Please explain the login item "open" from unidentified developer

Ventura macOS 13.2.1. After installation, a dialog comes up saying "Background items Added-- "open" is and item that can run in the background. You can manage this in Login items Settings" Will someone explain what this is about?

I am a bit unclear if unix exec's are flooding your login items in Ventura, or just the "One" you are asking about.

Unix executable used by developers associated w/ their applications, background processes that perform work on behalf of applications or serve content over the network.

I might suspect some third party software you have installed..

FYI, This is a known issue regarding the new macOS Ventura System Settings for Background Apps configuration. @etresoft talked about this "Background Apps" System Settings panel in another thread. Seems like bringing this out to the user was not done well and Apple never provided any information about how to have their apps handle this new "feature" setting. Best to just ignore the Background Apps System Settings panel alone for now until Apple straightens things out with the feature and developer information. Sorry I don't have a link at the moment to the other thread where @etresoft discussed some these things.

The "open" is a lower level command line utility used to launch GUI based apps from the command line (perhaps can do more than GUI apps, but that is all I've ever used it for myself). Due to the improperly implement Background Apps feature in System Settings it is bringing up this utility without providing more information (@etresoft discussed why it does not have this information in the other thread).

Thanks, but the developer is unidentified. Here's what shows in System Preferences under Login items

so I guess it's a part of the Ventura innards and maybe the developer is Apple.

In general I would not be concerned, it is advised to —

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Typical to find executables see Finder>Go>Go to Folder copy and paste:

/usr/libexec

these reside on the read-only filesystem

I don't think you can do anything for the moment which was part of the discussion in the other thread...I'll try to see if I can find that link. Apple did not properly implement the Background Apps feature before release so now users are stuck with these issues regarding Background Apps. It will likely take Apple a while to fix this feature assuming they even know about or care about it...obviously they didn't care enough to hold it back from a production release.

Contact the developers of the affected apps for assistance, but like I said, I don't think they have any information about how this new feature works with their apps so it will likely take them time to figure out what will prevent unnecessary notifications.

You can provide Apple with product feedback here (Apple won't respond):

Product Feedback - Apple

Edit: If you don't use apps from those developers, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions. Sometimes downloading apps from a website will also include other apps hidden or bundled into the installer for the main app.

Typically there is an associated developer name or some such— do a google search for what is the associated software.

This interface and all the now included in "log-in items" is a bit of a confusing mess with the new Ventura.

The "Allow in the Background" items is self explanatory —

...Thanks for all this information. I am also getting a long (and often repetitive) list of notifications on the right hand side of my Macair telling me which companies have background apps running without my consent and that I can "manage" these apps in the Settings->General->Login Items page of Settings. (i) the listed apps do not all appear as consented apps (ii) turning them "of" makes no difference (iii) One of them is Samsung Electronics (which I never installed); Trust1Team bvba (also unknown to this Mac customer); Adobe Systems Inc. (unknown to me - I never installed an Adobe App); Spotify (never installed).

This is very worrying. How do I get rid of this nonsense...?
