Email gets deleted after responding to invitation

This has happened to me a couple of times now. Essentially, if I respond to an email from Apple's Mail app which gives me the choice 'accept', 'maybe', or 'decline', the email gets deleted and, more importantly, the event does not appear in iCal/Calendar. This is not the first message about this problem (see Macbook Mail app, Email disapears after c… - Apple Community, Macbook Mail app, Email disapears after c… - Apple Community); however, that issue was pushed to Apple support because the person who posted the question didn't know how to invite people to an event.

The fact is that this has happened to me before and, although I didn't know the email was sent to the trash (I genuinely thought the email had disappeared on its way to the Calendar app through some bug), like the previous poster said, the email should not be deleted or, at the very least, the event should appear in Calendar with the email copied into the Notes or as an attachment to the event.

I guess I'm asking why the event is not appearing in the calendar app, particularly if the email is being moved to the bin after responding.

Hey there isolated_matrix,

While you may also need to get in touch with Apple Support, we'd like to first help rule out all some possible causes here in Apple Support Communities, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. When did this start to occur?
  2. Does this occur with other email aside from email Calendar invites?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  4. If you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 13.2.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!

Hi Bruno75,

This has occurred for a while now, but I only decided to make a post about this yesterday (because I couldn't reply to one of the other threads I linked above). You can see from those posts, though, it's been going on for a while.

I'm not sure what you mean by other email. If you are talking about when someone says in the email 'Saturday at 6pm', and then Mail suggests you make an event, then that works without any problems (I actually find it pretty useful). So, this works (although, for some reason, it's getting the time wrong...):

but this doesn't:

Again, this has occurred several times in the past, on separate computers, so it has nothing to do with restarting the computer (I also turn the computer off when I finish with it, so it's not constantly running without having the chance to reset itself).

I am running the current operating system on a MacBook Pro with M1 Max chip.

I think it might just be a bug, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't have been fixed :s
