Why is paste in Pages 12.2.1 Monterey not working properly.

I recently upgraded to Monterey and I use Pages version 12.2.1 (7035.0.161). I frequently have the need to copy text from FireFox v 110.0(64-bit) web pages to paste into Pages documents. Since the upgrade I have not been able to paste with or without formatting. I tried all the following:

Force quit pboard in Activity Manager

Start in safe mode then reboot normal

Delete user cache

Created a new user to test

Made sure accessibility settings are not preventing it

Zapped the PRAM

Checked Privacy and Security system preferences for anomalies

I changed the document set-up default printer to HP Laserjet rather than my 44" large format Epson inkjet which is non PostScript printer. Still no joy.

The interesting thing about this is that it seems to be Pages specific. I can paste the same copied text into TextEdit with no issues as well as other applications. I can also copy text from TextEdit and successfully paste in into Pages. I've been able to paste text into this message. So I think we can safely rule out pboard not working. I think it has something to do with FireFox text/rich text/HTML gremlins but I don't know what to do about it.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

Clark

Consider that Pages has no HTML/CSS styling awareness (unlike TextEdit, or MS Word) and is designed to take UTF-8 text or RTF format content from the clipboard. If Firefox copies some other formating (HTML/CSS) to the clipboard, then Pages will not know what to do with it.

What happens when you try copying the same content in Safari, and then pasting into Pages? Safari places content in the clipboard as RTF and Pages may do something with all or part of it.

There is always the possibility that something has changed in current releases of FireFox, or Apple has changed something in Pages, but in either case, all you can do with some hope of success is paste into TextEdit, select that result, and copy/paste into Pages. That still may not be entirely sufficient. Nothing else you can do short of using a different word processing application that better understands web content.
