iMovie vanishing title text

Hello. I am wrapping up the iMovie but it has been a struggle. Recently I have had several title texts disappear. Several times not anywhere near the clip or other text box I am working on. Several times when this has happened I happened to see it vanish so I have clicked on the title box, go to edit, and select restore text. But, several times I do not find a retrieval path.I think it is my mistake and in ignorance strike a key (I think maybe space bar) after a sequence of mouse clicks, a combination which is programmed to delete title text. Does anyone have an idea of the mouse click and key strokes that will delete title text so I can avoid this, or some other suggestion how my title texts disappear? I can search this but am trying to save some time by seeing forum knowledge first.thanks as usual.

No. You need to close iMovie and then reopen it while holding down the Option and Command keys at the same time. (You may need to reopen iMovie from its icon in the Application folder.) A dialogue box will open giving you the option to delete preferences. You will then get a box that looks like this:

Select "Delete Preferences".

Try deleting preferences. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Hey Rich...when I follwoing tip by clicking on iMovie, then preferrences, the last of 4 choices is "render files" then the word 'delete' in the box. Is this the 'deleting preferences' you are referring to?? I don't want to make more problems.

I apologize but another imovie help site tip that isn't working for me. I want to change duration of all transitions in time line en masse. I click under imovie to open preferences box and changed to 1. 0 second. Then returned to time line and boxed all those clips I want to change. I double click the selected transition, the transition style is changed en masse, but the duration selected under preferences is not accepted and the duration change is not en masse. It seems like the default duration is 0.2 seconds. Also, when I double click on a selected transtion style and change duration, the 'apply to all' button does not work. Finally under edit, can I change the evidently default transition from 'cross dissolve' to something else? I am wearing myself out seeking imovie and youtube help to avoid forum help but getting no where. It seems as those the user guide is not in depth, or needs upating.

I0 apologize again but the 'old library' pathway suggested by forum member does not appear. I am confident that it is my poor navigation skills. I did finally export imovie to PC but want to make some edits. So I renamed but now when trying the recommentaitonn to ' deleting preferences' I am failing.

Since you have several issues going on, I think that you would benefit from an oral discussion with the techs at Apple Support. They have the capability of remotely accessing your computer that we do not have here. Click on the Support item at the top of this forum's page and navigate to a place where you can enter your phone number.

You might also refer to the iMovie Help menu.

When using the preferences box to set durations you need to do that before creating the project.

Even if the default transition duration for a project is 2.0 seconds, you can set the duration to any length that you want as long as the clips on each side have sufficient resididual media to accept the transition. If the transition is between video clips, then to create residual media shorten (trim back) the clips on each side of the transition, and then adjust your transition duration. If the transition is between photos, then lengthen the duration of the photos on each side of the transition.

Hello Rich. thanks again for tips. I did not know that I had to set duration before starting project so will keep that in mind. I was able to set all durations as I wanted them...so success there.I have received some help from the creat team at Apple support, including just an hour ago to convert from Fat32 to exFat.I navigated as best I could on line to try to convert myself but failed. It took the techs expertise to make the conversion. So my movie is done and the flash drive worked on the TV. I have also used the imovie help menu available and it has helped some. I have learned that Best Buy is now an authorized Apple repair site so am taking it in tomorrow. It seems as it has been slow opening programs even prior to imovie effort. So maybe they can give it a good overhaul.

Great! Glad to see that you got everything working.

Yes, ExFat is the format to use when plugging into a TV, or when you likely will be playing the flash drive on both Apple and Windows devices.

Do you by any chance have Apple TV? If so you can use the screen mirroring feature on your Mac to play the movie, and the movie will be played on your TV screen as well. For instructions, go to the Help Menu and type in Screen Mirroring. Then you can play the movie on your Mac and it will simultaneously play on your TV.

No Apple TV, but thanks for tip. My movie is about 5gb, 30 minutes,video, photo, music, sound effects, titles and transitions. I figured about 50 hours but some of that of course was learning and dealing with crashes.
