FaceTime cannot start, keeps crashing EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)

Hi all,

Not sure if my topic selection is accurate, but I presume it is connected to macOS as the issue started appearing after upgrade to Ventura.

Anyone knows the solution for FaceTime crashing? It seems to started after upgrading to Ventura.

Symptoms:

  1. Trying to open FaceTime on Mac

2. I receive the call on my iPhone, it immediately drops the call on my iPhone and on Mac and same problem report shows. Caller gets ring and busy signal.

I am on latest macOS, Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68).

Macbook Pro, 15" - 2018

Attached is the full report, if anything else is needed, let me know.

Thanks everyone!

A Very Good explanation form another user with similar Error Code 2101D.

It involves System Integrity Protection ( SIP for short )

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

It is a good place to get answers or suggestions to Apple Computer issue.

➡️ Onto the question related to SIP which is covered in an Article from Apple.

Further , always running without SIP Enabled is not usually a good idea as it does have consequences such as what the computer has just experienced.

Yes, there are times one may need to disable SIP but usually always suggested to Re-Enable afterwards

I've went through enabling csrutil System Integrity Protection (SIP) and it worked. You have to hold the "option"+"command"+"r"+"p" during reboot until the logo shows up, which enables all utilities. Once done, I typed "csrutil status" in terminal and got:

"System Integrity Protection status: enabled."

Now, FaceTime works.

Honestly, I have no idea what is the corelation between FaceTime and SIP.

Thank you,
