Ventura 13.2.1 - Mac now very, very slow!!

I note a few queries regarding this - I have never experienced such poor performance - I spend most of my time watching the spinning rainbow wheel!! What have Apple done? But more importantly, what are they doing to fix this? My machine is now like something from the dial-up days!! Not what I expect from Apple at all.

Suggestions????

I am also having problems with my MacBook Air that started yesterday. I get the spinning wheel of color frequently, and the machine just isn't responsive. Have been on 4 calls with Apple Support, but they haven't been able to help me resolve this. I am on the most current version of Ventura, I have plenty of storage 700+gb, 16mb memory, I have daily scans of Malwarebytes. I followed Old Toad guidance and ran EtreCheck. Attaching the report, but I don't know how to resolve the issues. Can anyone help??? Thanks.

Download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

I don't see any of the usual suspects in the report. But I would recommend you give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and then reboot rormally.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

You might have some corrupt or damaged temp cache or swap files that are contributing to the problem. This will clean the out.

To start the model you purchased was the second slowest model Apple offered at the time of purchase: 8 GB of RAM and a 5400 rpm Fusion drive.

Also you've installed and run CleanMyMac at sometime or another. That may be the biggest interference to overall performance. You should uninstall it according to the developer's instructions. If you've already deleted the app then you can check to see if you've removed all of the supporting files by downloading and running the shareware app Find Any File to search for any files with the application's or the developer's name in the file name.  For CleanMyMac software you'd do the following search(es):

1 - Name contains cleanmymac

2 - Name contains macpaw

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

Your read and write speeds are not that bad so see if removing the CMM software helps. Also there's been some other posts where Google Drive seemed to be a part of the solution. You might uninstall it and see if the performance improves.

Thanks for the guidance Old Toad. I tried the SAfe Mode option but it didn't resolve the situation. I appreciate you reviewing the report. I finally went to the Genius Bar today and they ran some hardware diagnostics, but didn't find any issues. The Apple guy had me setup a new user on the laptop and said to give that a try, and if the problem didn't reappear to just stick with the new userID. Unfortunately, I just got home and shortly after I started using the new user, the problem reappeared...clocking on News App, Apple TV, etc. He said if the new user didn't work, my next best option is to wipe the machine and do a clean install of the OS. I hate to wipe it out, but don't see any other options at this point.
