Should the iPhone only be affected by 'browser pop-ups' or other superficial appearance

of problems, restart the Safari and clean the cache/history to remove the last pages URL

There's almost no likelihood of an up-to-date iPhone, with current iOS, acquiring virus

or malaware; however 'Malwarebytes for iPhone' may be an OK software to use for this.

Unless you jailbroke your phone or installed a management profile so you could install an app from outside of the App Store, your phone does not have “malware”.

Why do you think that? It's very difficult for a phone to be compromised. Usually, what people think is malware is something else. If you describe what you're seeing, perhaps someone can help you get to the bottom of it.

That text message is a scam. It probably has a link in it to a website. The whole point of that text is to scare you into parting with sensitive information. Delete it and mark it as junk.
