Can't user external mic input and AirPods output at the same time.

I have a MacBook Air M1 and GarageBand 10.4.8.

When I use an external mic plugged into the 1/8" jack, no audio output goes go my AirPods. I select the right things in GB Input and Output Settings, but the output doesn't reach my AirPods. If I unplug the mic, it works.

Is their any fix/setting/workaround for this?

Hi minor_second,

You can isolate the issue by testing it in a new administrator account. This will let you know if the issue only occurs in one account, or if it's possibly a system-wide behavior. If needed, this article will guide you through creating a new account: Add a user or group on Mac.

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose Administrator.
4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
6. Click Create User.

If the issue persists, let us know and we'll help out further.

Regards.
