Mail is still slow loading messages

It looks like there is still not a fix to the problem of Apple Mail being slow to load messages. It is hugely irritating. I am running OS Monterey 12.6.3 on my late 2015 Mac with 24 GB, and everything but Mail works fine. Mail also works fine on my IPAD, and IPhone, just not on my Mac. Previous comments for workarounds suggest anti-virus software might be the culprit, but it is not conclusive. I don't recall Mail having this problem until the last six months or so, but it could have been a gradual issue that I haven't recognized until now.
