Folders on Finder won't expand after hovering a dragged file on top of them.

I'm trying to drag and drop files into a specific subfolder, but rather than automatically expanding after hovering with the file dragged over it, I have to physically drop on each folder. It's very time-consuming and annoying. Is there a setting or box I haven't checked?
