I received a new chip for a phone I have not used in a couple of years. Initially I used the apple ID I am using on my current work phone. But I have another Apple Id that I created a few years ago That I want to use. When I go top add it to the new phone I get a message "ID is already being used". When I look up in icloud.com it is not attached to anything. What would I be doing wrong?

Do you have that message correct? You can definitely use an Apple ID on multiple devices. That message sound to me more like you are trying to create a new ID using an email address that has already been used. To use an old ID, simply sign in with the username and password for that old ID.

For an Apple Mobile device:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Sign in to your [device].
3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
4. If prompted, enter the six-digit verification code sent to your trusted device or phone number and complete sign in.
If another Apple ID is signed in you may need to enter the password for that ID to sign out of that ID first.
